Problem Saving Form with Downloadable FORMgen - Permission denied

(2584 views. Last Updated: 2008-04-11 12:08 PM)

This posting is in regards to the downloadable version of FORMgen and not FORMgen Lite.

When running FORMgen on some web server configurations, you may encounter an error like:
Warning: fopen(/home/user/public_html/FORMfields/forms/generated/test.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/user/public_html/FORMgen/FgHelper.php on line 13

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/user/public_html/FORMgen/FgHelper.php on line 14

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/user/public_html/FORMgen/FgHelper.php on line 15

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/user/public_html/FORMgen/FgHelper.php:13) in /home/user/public_html/FORMgen/step5Header.php on line 26

This occurs because the FORMfields Configuration Wizard you ran when installing FORMgen was unable to properly set the permissions on the forms directories. To fix this, simply FTP into your web server and set full read, write and execute permissions on FORMfields/forms/generated, FORMfields/forms/generated/extras and FORMfields/forms/backup. Alternatively, you can use the shell command chmod 777.

Note: Some web servers will still generate a 404 error or a blank page even when full permissions are set. These cases are most likely due to the web server requiring chmod 755 permissions on FORMfields/forms, FORMfields/forms/generated, FORMfields/forms/generated/extras and FORMfields/forms/backup.
